Coke-oven gas is by product in coke production, mainly contains H₂, Methane, CO, CO₂, N₂,alkene, etc. Broadly speaking, there are two production process for LNG from coke-oven gas. One is process of methanation , while another is non-methanation.

Methanation process is based on chemical reaction under catalyst of H₂ in coke-oven gas with CO and CO₂ to generate methane. Non-methanation process works by direct cryogenic liquefaction of coke-oven gas without methanation.
